In Winter 2024, Nicholls and Uttinger Civil completed repairs on a Waitomo Road that had been completely washed out by the previous year's severe storm events.

The four-month project involved excavating the slip material and constructing a large rock buttress fill to rebuild the road.

The design included 8000m3 cut to waste earthworks, a substantial network of underground subsoil drains, and brought in nearly 9000m3 of imported GAP100 hardfill from a nearby quarry.
